Killeen police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Root Avenue Monday night.

KPD spokeswoman Ofelia Miramontez report that officers responded to a shots fired disturbance in the 400 block of Root at approximately 8:55 PM.

Upon their arrival, they located a man identified as 21-year-old Marquis Demps suffering from a gunshot wound and not breathing. Justice of the peace Claudia Brown pronounced Demps dead at the scene.

Demps' remains will undergo autopsy at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.

Miramontez did not say if there is currently a suspect in this case.
