The Killeen Police Department reports that the overall crime rate index in the city decreased by 6.23% in 2012 compared to 2011.

The numbers, based on population estimates provided by the U.S. Census Bureau in May, show 4,625.51 crimes per 100,000 people in 2011, compared to 4,333.33 crimes per 100,000 people in 2012.

However, the numbers show that the 2012 violent crime rate remained relatively unchanged from 2011, even showing a slight increase of 0.82%. Non-violent crime dropped by 7.59%.
