Central Texans are generous people with big hearts, so I'm hoping that sharing this news will help a local school in need meet a goal they've set with lightning speed.

Rosemond Crown with our news partners at KWTX-TV reports that the Oak Creek Academy on Trimmier Road in Killeen is in need of a new HVAC system to ensure students can concentrate on course work in the winter months instead of trying to keep warm.

Dr. Tracy Hanson, the school's founder and principal, tells Crown that HVAC units in six of the old Fowler Elementary School building don't produce heat, and that it's been a major problem there for two years. The school has used space heaters to keep students as warm as they can in that time, but let's be real - space heaters aren't the best and can pose a potential danger to boot.

The private school serves mostly special needs students, and Dr. Hanson says 75% of tuition funds go toward paying educators helping kids from grades K through 12.

Needless to say, it looks like money's tight.

That's where we all come in.

The school looking to raise $190,000 to replace their HVAC system, and anything you might be able to spare right now would help make a dent in that total. I know everyone's tightening their belt these days with everything going on, but if you're able to give, it'll help some great kids here in Central Texas.

You'll find the school's fundraising page here. If you're not able to donate right now (which is entirely understandable), feel free to help get the word out.
