Killeen Shooting Suspect Found Dead
The suspect at the center of two manhunts at a Killeen apartment complex last week has been found dead.
Killeen police reported late Thursday that Nathan Erick Nance was found deceased Wednesday at 3:16 PM in Nolan Creek near Priest Drive. Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke pronounced Nance dead at 3:40 PM and ordered his remains sent to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas in order to determine the cause of death.
Police were called to the Bridgewater Retreat Apartments in the 600 block of West Hallmark in Killeen October 10 after multiple reports of shots fired. Officers discovered that man, later identified as Nance, fired a handgun at random before fleeing north. Children waiting for bus service reportedly witnessed the shots, but school officials and police insist they were never in any danger.
Police spent hours searching for Nance with ground and air resources, but were unable to locate him. The following Sunday, police conducted a second manhunt in the area, but to no avail.
Detectives described Nance as "mentally unstable".
