Killeen, Texas Beware Of Baby Formula Scammers Taking Advantage Of Mothers
As a mother myself living here in Killeen, Texas, my heart goes out to all of the brand new mothers just needing formula during this nationwide shortage. While there's no shortage of people trying to help with donations of formula they have or recipes for homemade formula, there are, unfortunately, scammers out there trying to make a buck during this crisis.
BABY FORMULA SCAMMERS ARE OUT THERE, EVEN IN CENTRAL TEXAS
The baby formula shortage has been all over the news and our social media feeds lately. We're told there's a plan in place that could take weeks to get formula back onto store shelves, but for now doctors are rationing it and desperate parents are trying to find ingredients to make formula at home.
I recently spoke with a local mom who warned me that some unscrupulous people are offering to sell formula they bought up and stockpiled when news of a shortage first emerged, but you're unlikely to hear from the again once you've sent your payment.
WHAT CENTRAL TEXAS NEEDS TO LOOK OUT FOR
The mother, who asked to remain anonymous, showed me in a private group on social media how a young lady was purchasing cans of baby formula and selling them for $45 a unit. There are at least three women she knew of who tried to purchase the cans from the young lady via cash app, and they never saw a single can.
All I can say is that you need to be extremely careful about who you trust, especially when it comes to buying something you'll be feeding to your child. Even if the person offering to sell you formula shows up with the product, there's always a chance it's expired or has been tampered with.
In general, you should never just send a random individual seller money via CashApp or other currency exchange apps before you've actually laid eyes on what you're buying. There are lots of unethical people who'll take your money and run.
MOTHERS IN CENTRAL TEXAS, PLEASE BE CAREFUL
Obviously this is awful. There are women trying to feed their children who can’t produce the milk that’s needed for them, and individuals are out here scamming desperate moms.
Excuse my language, but there’s a place in hell for people who prey upon others like this.
I wanted to make sure that all of Central Texas was aware of this because our babies need their milk and we do not have the time nor the patience to be scammed during desperate times. Keep your eyes open in Central Texas, and God bless!
