I’m Lynn Woolley with your Logic Minute for 5/29/13

Texas Democrats are right about one thing: Our Congressional
districts make no sense. One of them runs from just south of Fort
Worth, around Waco and Temple, takes in the State Capitol, and snakes
south to Hayes County. Candidates have to buy broadcast time in
Dallas, Waco, Killeen-Temple and Austin. That’s expensive. But
Democrats are mad at Republicans for gerrymandering – something the
Democrats are great at when they’re in power. Democrats use “race” to
get their way in court. They’re saying that even with huge minority
population growth, Republicans only drew one minority-controlled
district. The problem with that is that racial set-aides are
unconstitutional. Of course, some judges don’t care. So in the
current special session, it might be nice to consider a non-partisan
panel – or simply the use of computers to draw more compact districts—
and end gerrymandering altogether.
