After deflecting scandals one and two with relative ease, the Obama administration is having more trouble with scandals three, four, and five. Fast & Furious and Solyndra left Obama and Holder unscathed. But Benghazi, the IRS situation and the AP scandal are proving troublesome. On Benghazi, the President’s strategy has not wavered. The story was crafted months ago: it’s a political witch-hunt and the CIA changed the talking points. The Washington Post fact checker gave Obama four Pinocchios for his claim that he called it “terror” right off the bat. In the IRS affair, the strategy is to proclaim ignorance and outrage. As in “I know nothing, but this is really bad.” The “Big Dodge” is to feign ignorance, say that the administration is looking into it, and will provide more info – or arrest the killers at Benghazi. But nothing ever happens and no new information ever comes. Meanwhile the scandals grow.
