LOL, ERCOT is Asking Texans to set Thermostats to 78 degrees or Higher
ERCOT is asking Texans to reduce electric use as much as possible today through Friday, June 18.
According to a press release from the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), tight grid conditions are expected due to a high number of forced generation outages. Basically, what happened during Winter Storm Uri could happen again, but this time in the sweltering heat of summer.
ERCOT sure has a lot of nerve playing with Texans again.
"We will be conducting a thorough analysis with generation owners to determine why so many units are out of service," said ERCOT Vice President of Grid Planning and Operations Woody Rickerson. "This is unusual for this early in the summer season."
ERCOT suggest the following ways to attempt to save power:
- Set your thermostat to 78 degrees or higher – every degree of cooling increases your energy use by six to eight percent.
- Turn off lights and pool pumps and avoid using large appliances like ovens, washing machines, and dryers.
- If you don’t need something – ERCOT is asking you to turn it off and unplug it if possible.
I just want to point out that I don't know any Texan in their right mind that would set their thermostat to 78 degrees in the Spring or Fall, let alone Summer! I understand the need to conserve energy, but they're basically asking Texans to melt while they try to work on the grid...AGAIN!
Wasn't freezing Texans enough back in February? Now ERCOT expects us to suffer heat strokes too?
