Lookin’ Good, Feelin’ Good: Mesquite Police Now Wear Cowboy Hats
The Mesquite Police Department celebrated National Hat Day on Sunday by releasing a new and stylish addition to their uniform - cowboy hats. Honestly, I can't think of a better way to appear more authoritative for issuing tickets, busting criminals and essentially keeping the peace in their community. The hats were decided based on popular vote within the department, and they went with the Resistol, black straw hat.
Police Chief Charles Cato told CBSDFW:
We have 180 of 220 uniformed police officers who have chosen to wear the new cowboy hat in the field as additional protection from various weather elements. This cowboy hat is a benefit the police officers asked for, and I am grateful the City of Mesquite was able to provide it.
Wearing the cowboy hat is certainly not mandatory and the hats are already budgeted for the year of 2017. Chief Cato said that this idea came as a result in his efforts to have a dialogue with every police officer in his department.
What do you think? Should all Texas officers rock the cowboy hat?
