Lubbock police officers responding to a call about shots fired and a loud party late Monday night (May 11) shot a dog after someone instructed it to attack.

According to the Lubbock Police Department, officers arrived at 9216 Ave. Q to investigate. The officers saw several people inside the home drinking and dancing through a window, as well as a shotgun and rifle near a couch.

After knocking on the door to the home, one of the residents opened the door, saw the officers and told a large Mastiff dog to attack. In the video below, you can hear someone say "get 'em, boy!"

One of the officers responds: "No, don't get 'em!" The dog growls, and one of the officers discharges his weapon twice. You can hear the dog whimper briefly following the shots. The officers say that the Mastiff and a second dog charged them.

The Mastiff was hit by two rounds. Lubbock Animal Control responded and took custody of both dogs. The Mastiff was later euthanized due his injuries.
