The Waco Police department has made several arrests in connection with the recent shootings in North Waco.

According to our news partners at KWTX, one of the suspects has been identified as Lewis St. Julian, Jr., age 30.

Julian was reportedly involved in the shooting that occurred February 5 at a home near Mountainview Elementary. Police say Julian was wounded during the shooting and was later arrested on Tuesday after officers found weapons and drugs in his home.

He's been charged with delivery of THC, but more charges are expected to be filed.

Waco PD's Drug Enforcement and Gang Street crimes unit have been working diligently to identify individuals involved in the recent surge of shootings.

Last week, 5 shootings occurred within 72 hours, and all were in the North Waco area. Six shootings have taken place since February 5th.

Waco city councilman Dillion Meek stated that "the Waco Police Department is doing everything they can within every available resource in the department to end this problem."  Despite this statement, members of the community are still highly alarmed at this recent crime surge, and many do not feel as safe as they once did.

Sammy Smith, president of the Brook Oaks Neighborhood association, told News 10, ""It's not like Waco. We are a safe city. It seemed like it happened so rapidly right behind each other. It wasn't like weeks and weeks apart, it was like two or three days apart."

However, one city official has stated that the shootings are not random.

Waco City Councilman Dillon Meek told News 10, "After speaking with city officials it's clear that this is specific and targeted incidents between known parties." He said the shootings were centered around the narcotics trade.
