There are no but's about it. No DUI Killeen is a phone number everyone should have in their cell phones when planning to have a couple drinks out. If you're unfamiliar, No DUI Killeen is a free service that offers bar patrons (soldier or not) rides home with their vehicle. So in other words, you don't even have to take a cab back to get your car the next morning.

When I moved out to Central Texas from California last year, one of the biggest adjustments I had to make was how I planned my nightlife. In San Francisco, I'd be able jump on Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) or call an Uber. But if you're going to call an Uber here, expect to pay a little more because there is often a lot of road between your favorite bar and your home.

No DUI Killeen was created by retired Army Master Sergeant Mike Nuttall. In an interview with KCEN TV, he noted that he was taken care of when he was younger and in the military. He also noticed many young soldiers would never call their superiors if they needed help for fear of punishment.

I just want to be able to take care of younger soldiers so they aren't throwing their careers away or ruining their lives.

No DUI picks up callers for free (and confidential) on Fridays and Saturdays between 11 p.m. and 2:30 a.m.

KCEN reported that No DUI Killeen has taken home more than 3,635 people in the last two years but the organization is always in need of volunteers - the last soldier to pick me up said he was receiving volunteer hours). They also need sponsors to help keep them going.

Both Wild Country of Harker Heights and Roger Beasley Mazda have signed on as sponsors and with an idea as great as this, I expect to see many other local businesses supporting an organization that prevents drunk and dangerous driving in our communities.

To use No DUI Killeen, you can call (844) 636-5463 or request a ride on their website www.noduiofkilleen.com.
