Pennsylvania Voter ID Law Temporarily Blocked
Citing the potential impact on voter turnout, Commonwealth Court Judge Robert Simpson of Pennsylvania issued a ruling today that blocks a controversial voter identification law from going into effect before November’s elections. While he acknowledged efforts by state officials to make it easier for citizens to obtain photo IDs, he felt that the gap between IDs issued and those needed cannot be closed by election day.
“I expected more photo IDs to have been issued by this time,” he said.
The ruling prevents the law from being enforced during the November 6 election, but the law will be allowed to go into effect next year.
