Prepare for Overnight Lane Closures on I-14/US 190 in Harker Heights March 10 to 15
The Interstate 14/US 190 facelift continues, and that'll mean some overnight lane closures through Harker Heights beginning next week.
From Sunday, March 10 to Friday, March 15, westbound portions of the highway will be closed from 7 PM to 6 AM so crews can re-position traffic barriers and begin moving traffic onto newly completed pavement.
(Oh, and just a reminder - you'll want to set your clock ahead an hour Sunday, as Daylight Saving Time begins at 2 AM that day. Don't forget to "spring forward'.)
We all know driving on 190 at night is stressful enough already, so just be extra cautious and watch for workers and equipment. Also be sure to watch for warning signs and work zone speed reductions. Disobeying those can result in doubled traffic fines.
It's all part of the continuing expansion project that started in spring of last year, and is expected to wrap up in summer of 2019 if the weather cooperates.
By the time the project is completed, we should have inside travel lanes along both east and westbound 190 from FM 2410 to FM 3423 (Indian Trail), plus a new concrete barrier between the opposing lanes.
Plans to designate 190 a part of I-14 began back in 2013, and it became official in January of 2017. Since then, crews have been working to increase the highway's capacity.
