Proposed Spaceport In Houston To Be Discussed

HOUSTON (AP) — Houston leaders are proceeding with efforts to establish a licensed spaceport at one of the city's airports.

The city's airport system plans on Wednesday to unveil drawings and three-dimensional graphics depicting various facets of the proposed Spaceport at Ellington Airport, including a passenger terminal building and an aviation museum.

The plans will be discussed at a meeting at Space Center Houston with the Commercial Spaceflight Federation, which is in the city this week for meetings with commercial space industry leaders in the Houston area.

Airport system officials have said their plans for a spaceport include accommodating reusable launch vehicles, space vehicle assembly, launching of micro-satellites and space tourism.

Ellington Airport, the 96-year-old airport that usually does not handle commercial air service, supports U.S. military and NASA operations.
