In a hearing Monday, prosecutors in the case of the Aurora, Colorado movie theater shooting announced their intention of seeking the death penalty for James Holmes, the alleged shooter.

Arapahoe County District Attorney George Brauchler said, "In this case for James Eagan Holmes, justice is death." The defense for Mr. Holmes had offered in March to enter a guilty plea in exchange for taking the death penalty off the table. Such a deal could have meant life without parole for Holmes, who is accused of killing 12 people and injuring 58 in a 2012 shooting spree in a crowded movie theater. The prosecution has rejected that deal, and the defense will continue to press for an insanity plea.
