R Kelly Charged with 10 Counts of Aggravated Sexual Abuse
Prosecutors in Chicago have charged R&B star R Kelly with ten counts of aggravated sexual abuse, the Associated Press reported Friday afternoon.
The charges came days after attorney Michael Avenatti claimed to have evidence that Kelly and "enablers" paid witnesses to change the outcome of Kelly's 2008 trial for child pornography charges in the singer's favor. Prosecutors in that trial presented a video they said showed Kelly having sex with a 13-year-old girl.
Avenatti said last week that he would present video evidence of Kelly engaged in sexual activity with a minor to the Cook County State's Attorney's Office.
Kelly has been at the center of accusations of sex with underage girls for years. On Thursday, two of his accusers told the media the singer chose them from a crowd at a Baltimore concert when they were 16 and had sex with one of them.
This is a breaking story, and we will have more information as it becomes available.
