Temple police are investigating after a 33-year-old woman was fatally injured by a rock thrown from an I-35 overpass Saturday night.

Temple PD Public Information Officer Shawana Neely said Sunday that officers responded to an unknown injury call near the 2600 block of I-35 and Bellaire Dr. around 8:41 PM. They were advised that a family of five were traveling north on the interstate between exits 303 and 305 when someone threw a large rock from a railroad overpass onto the highway.

The rock struck the vehicle's windshield, penetrating it and hitting the driver, identified as Keila Ruby Flores.

Flores was transported to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple, where she passed away as a result of her injuries at 10:32 AM Sunday. Neely said an autopsy has been ordered.

Unfortunately, no suspect information was available as of Sunday.
