If you were headed south on I-35 Tuesday morning you may have experienced significant delays due to a fatal crash.

According to a press release from the City of Temple, the collision took place at approximately 5 AM near exit 301.

Temple police have reported that a sedan lost control and was hit by an 18-wheeler. The passenger of the sedan, Erica McCrary, 28, died on the scene. The male driver of the sedan was transported to Baylor Scott & White with life threatening injuries. The driver of the 18-wheeler was unharmed and there were no other reported injuries.

I commute from Waco to Temple, so I got to experience the traffic delay first-hand. Traffic around exit 308 began to slow considerably. Next, the highway slowly changed from 3 lanes, down to 2. Eventually traffic was down to only 1 lane, and at Nugent we were all directed to exit the highway and on to the access road.

The station is located on Moody lane so I was able to avoid any further traffic, but I've never seen a portion of I-35 completely inaccessible like it was this morning. Please remember to be alert and drive carefully with the current weather and shifting lanes.
