A powerful earthquake has jolted northwestern Japan, and officials are warning of a tsunami of up to one meter (3.3 feet) high along parts of the coast.

Jebi, reportedly the strongest typhoon to make landfall in Japan since 1993, headed north across the main island of Honshu toward the Sea of Japan.

The USS Fitzgerald was struck on its starboard side by a Philippine container ship early Saturday morning. Noe Hernandez of Weslaco, TX was among those killed.
