A man accused of intentionally setting a fire that damaged a home on South 13th Street last summer was arrested Thursday.

An arrest warrant for Larry Vance Sams, 51, was arrested at his place of employment around 3:30 PM, according to Temple Fire & Rescue Spokesman Thomas Pechal. He was charged with first degree felony arson of a habitation and theft.

According to Pechal, police responded to a report of vandalism at 901 South 13th St. on July 30, 2017. Upon arrival, officers noticed that a bedroom had received extensive fire damage and requested assistance from the fire marshal's office. Investigators determined that a fire in the bedroom has burned itself out after consuming all the oxygen in the room.

After reviewing evidence, investigators identified Sams as the primary suspect. The Bell County District Attorney's Office issued a complaint on January 24, 2017, and Sams was arrested and booked into the Bell County Jail on $27,500 bond the next day. Sams was not listed on the jail's roster Thursday night.
