Temple Fire and Rescue's newest life-saving tool was unveiled at Cedar Ridge Park on Belton Lake Wednesday afternoon.

Swift water rescue technicians hopped aboard the department's new swift water recovery boat for a demonstration. The new 14', 40-horsepower vessel and its trailer cost $20,000, which came courtesy of a generous grant from State Farm Insurance.

Now that Temple Fire & Rescue has this boat, they won't have to wait for a neighboring department's boat when there are lives at stake during a flooding event. They'll be able to roll this vessel out quickly and get to saving people stranded in swift water. They'll also be able to help out neighboring departments.

The video below shows a rescue crew pushing the motor to the max and showing off the boat's maneuverability. It sure looks like a lot of fun, but they'll be using it for the serious business of saving Central Texans from nightmare situations.

Thanks to State Farm for helping make this happen, and thanks to all our emergency responders for their tireless work to keep us all safe.
