Temple Food For Families Needs Your Help

This year has been rough to say the least, but imagine paying it forward to friends and neighbors who may be having an even tougher time than yourself.

According to a report from our news partners at KWTX, the local pantry Food For Families in Temple needs your help now more than ever before. Due to the pandemic of COVID-19 and a fire at  St. Vincent de Paul’s in October, the food pantry is struggling to keep up with demand.

Even though the fire devastated the pantry, Food for Families pushed on and continued holding their weekly food pantry.

“Each food pantry has grown so much due to COVID-19, and so we’ve increased by 100 clients,” Executive director Caitlin West said. “So we serve about 200 clients every Thursday, and I know each and every pantry has increased as well."

So what exactly is Food for Families? Food For Families is an annual project for the Longhorn Council, Boy Scouts of America, H.E.B. Grocery Company, and KWTX News 10. Together with food pantries all across Central Texas, this one-day food drive collects non-perishable food and stocks the shelves of area food banks and pantries beyond the holiday season.

“In the past, each food pantry has received about four to five pallets full of mixed foods and canned goods,” West said. “So it definitely helps out whenever maybe there’s not something we can order through Central Texas Food Bank, so anything goes an extra way to help us supply for families in need.”
