Temple Police Investigating Fatal Hit-And-Run on Adams and Fowler
Temple police are investigating a hit-and-run that left a man dead late Sunday night.
Officers were dispatched to a call of a deceased man on the side of the road at Adams Avenue and Fowler Drive Sunday. There, they found 28-year-old Juan Carlos Guevara-Portillo, who had in fact passed away.
Police have reason to believe he was struck by a vehicle, the driver of which sped away rather than stop to render aid.
A Temple PD spokesman said detectives have not identified a suspect vehicle, and no further information was released. If a description of the vehicle or a suspect becomes available, we will bring you that update.
The investigation remained active Monday morning.
CORRECTION: An earlier draft of this story indicated that police had identified a suspect vehicle. That is not the case, and the article has been corrected.
Sadly, this is the second reported hit-and-run case in Central Texas in less than a week.
Around 10:30 AM Thursday, an 82-year-old man was hit in the 400 block of West Loop 121. He was hospitalized in critical condition.
A suspect - 26-year-old Destiny Wolbrueck of Belton - was arrested later that day on suspicion of failure to stop and render aid serious injury or death and tampering or fabricating physical evidence. Another woman with Wolbruek - 18-year-old Alexis Ortiz of Granbury - was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.
Wolbruek remained in the Bell County Jail Monday with bond set at $200,000. Ortiz did not appear on the jail's roster Monday.
