Temple Police Investigating Fatal Overnight Crash
A man was killed and two other people were injured when an SUV left Highway 190 and rolled in Temple early Monday morning.
According to a Temple PD press release, officers responded to the crash site near the intersection of S.E. HK Dodgen Loop and State Highway 95 shortly after 3 a.m. Their initial investigation indicated that a Nissan SUV headed west on 190 left the road, entered the median, and began to roll. It crossed the eastbound lanes and traveled up an embankment before coming to a stop on the south side of the highway.
The driver, 19-year-old Derrick Davis of Houston, was ejected from the vehicle. Police say he was not wearing a seat belt. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers - a 19-year-old woman and 21-year-old man from Houston - were transported to Scott and White Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police are working to determine the cause of the crash. It does not appear that any other vehicles were involved.
