Police in Temple are investigating a shooting that left a man dead early Tuesday morning.

Temple PD spokesperson Shawana Neely reports that police were called to the 800 block of North 4th Street at 12:17 AM.

When officers arrived, they found a black male lying in the doorway of a residence. He was transported to Baylor Scott & White Hospital, where he passed away as a result of gunshot injuries.

Neely said the man's body will undergo an autopsy, and the investigation is still in the preliminary phase.

Witnesses told police they saw two black males running from the scene of the crime, but no further details were available.
