Two officers and a civilian bystander saved the life of a little girl swept away by a flooded drainage ditch Thursday afternoon.

Temple PD received a call shortly after 4 PM informing them that the child had been swept away near the 1500 block of S. 19th St. The caller said they couldn't see the child, but could hear her cries somewhere in the area.

Officers searched along the creek until two of them spotted the girl clinging to a branch. Tempe PD officers Sgt. Sean Children and Sgt. Larry Wilkey then formed a human chain with the help of civilian Daniel Lawrence and pulled the girl to safety.

The girl was taken to Scott & White Children's Hospital in Temple with a laceration to her head.  She's expected to be okay.
