Temple Police Responded to Two Shots Fired Calls Friday Morning
Temple police say they were investigating one shots fired call early Friday morning when a second came in from a few blocks away.
Temple Police Department Media Relations Specialist Cody Weems reports that officers were initially called to the 700 block of South 53rd Street around 2:13 AM. There, they found that a home had been damaged by gunfire. Fortunately, the home was unoccupied.
While at that scene, officers received a report of shots fired in the 1800 block of South 45th Street. Upon arrival, they found that another home had been damaged by gunshots. Thankfully, no injuries were reported at either scene.
Weems reports that both cases are currently being investigated as separate incidents.
Police are asking anyone who may have information about these shootings to call them at (254) 298-5500.
News of the shootings comes less than 24 hours after Temple police reported an increase in auto thefts in the city. Since New Year's Day, TPD has responded to 33 stolen vehicle reports. Police say 48% of those cases involved vehicles being left unlocked, and 45% had keys left inside. Only 25 of the vehicles stolen were recovered, and police say the thefts are occurring mostly around apartment complexes.
I hope everyone out there is being cautious. Always remember to lock the doors and secure the windows of both your vehicle and your home. Make a habit of checking everything, inside and out, before going to bed. Always be aware of your surroundings when you're outside, as well.
