Temple Shooting Suspect Was Out On Bond for Previous Shooting
A 21-year-old man suspected in a shooting that occurred at a Temple park last week was in the Bell County Jail Thursday morning, and police say he was out on bond for suspicion of involvement in another shooting at the time of his arrest.
On Friday, May 8, police were called to the scene of a shooting at Jackson Park in the 1100 block of West Avenue H. There, they found a victim with non-life-threatening injuries. That person was transported to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center.
Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Marcus Laron Mayes Jr. on Saturday, May 9. On Wednesday, May 13, officers with the U.S. Marshals Service in Waco served the warrant at a residence in the 3800 block of Mockingbird Lane.
Mayes has been charged with two second degree felony counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and had an outstanding warrant for class B misdemeanor criminal trespass.
Bell County Jail records indicate he was booked at 2:41 PM Wednesday. His bond was set at $100,000.
According to police, Mayes is a suspect in a shooting that occurred near West Avenue M and South 17th Street in Temple on November 6, 2019. He was out on bond for that incident when he was arrested this week. That bond has been revoked.
As police were serving Mayes' arrest warrant, they also arrested 20-year-old Tiffany Ramirez, who they say was in possession of ecstasy and Xanax. She's been charged with third degree felony possession of a controlled substance. No bond information was provided by Bell County Jail records as of late Thursday morning.
Both Mayes and Ramirez remained in the Bell County Jail on Thursday, May 14.
