Temple police have identified the victim of Thursday's fatal stabbing, and a suspect is in custody.

The victim was identified as 37-year-old Jaco Whiteley. Officers responding to a report of a stabbing in the 700 block of East Downs shortly before 3 PM Thursday found Whiteley injured when they arrived.

Officers attempted lifesaving treatment at the scene, and Whiteley was transported to Baylor Scott & White Hospital where he later passed away. He was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace David Barfield at 3:46 PM Thursday.

The suspect, identified as 24-year-old D’vante Exhalcia Craine-Greene of Temple, was arrested at 4:48 PM Thursday in the 800 block of North 12th Street.

Records indicate Craine-Greene was booked into the Bell County Jail at 8:07 PM and charged with a third degree felony. The felony was listed as "offense unknown" Friday morning, and no bond total was available.

According to Temple Police Department spokeswoman Ellen Morton, the case is being investigated as a homicide.
