Temple Street to Close for Two Weeks Beginning May 15

UPDATE - 5/14/19, 4:03 PM: The City of Temple announced Tuesday afternoon that the closure of North 1st between Walker Ave and Virginia Ave will be delayed due to Tuesday's rainfall. The closure will now begin on Thursday, May 16.

If you drive by Lamar Middle School in Temple to drop off kids or on your way to work, things may be a little slower than usual over the next couple of weeks.

The City of Temple will close North 1st Street from Walker Avenue to Virginia Avenue beginning Wednesday, May 15. Residents will still have access to their driveways, but through traffic will have to go around.

The closure will give crews the space they need to replace a sewer main along N. 1st.

Work on the project is scheduled to be completed Friday, May 31st, at which point crews will reopen the road.

In the meantime, southbound traffic along N. 1st will be diverted west along Walker to N. 3rd, then east onto Virginia Avenue to the open portion of N. 1st.

Northbound traffic will head west along Virginia to 3rd, then east along Walker to the open portion of N. 1st.
