Austin will be the new site for Tesla's largest assembly plant, which will employ at least 5,000 workers.

According to CBS Austin News, the new manufacturing site will be where the electric car company will build the upcoming Cybertruck, and will be Tesla's second plant to manufacture the Model Y small SUV.

The new facility will be located in Travis County, and the company plans to construct it on a 2,100 acre site.  The building where the vehicles will be produced will be over a million square feet. CEO Elon Musk says it's is already under construction.

According to the company's website, the Cybertruck is supposed to be available to consumers starting late next year. That means they don't have a ton of time to complete the new facility and start the manufacturing process.

Governor Greg Abbott welcomed the company to Texas in a statement issued Wednesday, call it "one of the most exciting and innovative companies in the world".

“Texas has the best workforce in the nation and we’ve built an economic environment that allows companies like Tesla to innovate and succeed," Gov. Abbott wrote. "Tesla’s Gigafactory Texas will keep the Texas economy the strongest in the nation and will create thousands of jobs for hard-working Texans. I look forward to the tremendous benefits that Tesla's investment will bring to Central Texas and to the entire state."

The company has missed target production dates in the past, so we'll see if they can hit their goal for this project.

It's great to see more job opportunities like this become available for Central Texas workers, especially in these tough economic times.
