Communities across Central Texas have been pausing to remember the victims of Sandy Hook.

Twenty children were killed inside their school along with six adults.

On Thursday, Governor Rick Perry issued a proclamation declaring a moment of silence at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, December 21st.

The date and the time coincide with the ‘Day of Mourning’ called by Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy in memory of the 26 victims of last week’s tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Gov. Perry is also encouraging places of worship and buildings that are able to ring bells 26 times to honor each life that was lost.

“Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we find hope in the stories of courage and bravery that have emerged in the aftermath,” Gov. Perry said. “This is an opportunity to join together in the spirit of healing, and in honor of those who were lost.”
