Texas Fisherman Lands New Record Catch
Everything is bigger in Texas, including this record breaking catch.
Please don't tell my Uncle Jerry about this guys record breaking catch because as soon as he hears it, he'll tell you about the time he caught a fish that somehow was bigger than the one I'm about to tell you about.
In fact, not only will his "fish that got away" story be so over the top, it'll probably include a story about how he once thwarted a bank robbery with his pocket protector and a sleeve of unused staples. Uncle Jerry never lets facts, or truth, get in the way of a great story.
Troy Lancaster is now the new record holder for largest Bluefin Tuna ever caught in Texas. KXXV reports that Lancaster reeled in a 876-pound Bluefin near Port Aransas back in mid-April, breaking the previous record of 808 pounds that was set in 1985.
Technically it's against the law to catch a Bluefin tuna larger than 73 inches. You need a special permit for it and you have to catch it unintentionally (huh?) and report it within 24-hours, which Lancaster did.
According to a Facebook post from the Port Aransas South Jetty, Lancaster hooked his record setting Bluefin tuna at 9:20am and didn't get it reeled in 'til 6:30pm. It took an hour alone just to get it in the boat.
Congrats to Troy Lancaster on his Texas record breaking catch. Incase you were wondering, the world record Bluefin tuna catch is 1,496 pounds from 1979 in Nova Scotia, Canada.
Also, this just in - my Uncle Jerry just saw the news and told me about an 800 pound catfish he caught in 1992, but it got away while he was wrestling a bear for it.
