Don’t Forget: Texas’ Sales Tax Holiday Begins This Friday, Aug 10
It's finally here! Texas back-to-school shoppers will be exempt from sales tax on select items starting this Friday, August 10 to Sunday, August 12.
This weekend, some items like clothing, backpacks, and school supplies will be exempt from state sales tax. The exemption applies to individual items under $100, not your total purchase. So, if you buy two pair of $60 jeans, each pair is exempt.
Items placed on layaway during the tax free holiday are also covered. However, rainchecks issued during the holiday will not be covered beyond the holiday. (The exemption will cover items you already have rainchecked if they're purchased during the holiday, just not after.)
The Texas Comptroller's website features lists of qualifying items and an FAQ section.
