The Killeen Black Art & Film Fest Returns This Saturday
Get ready for the Killeen Black Art and Film Festival - a celebration of Black voices and creativity in film right here in Central Texas.
The Theme This Year is "Telling Our Stories". There will be panel discussions on filmmaking, trailers, live art, music and videos, plus informative workshops.
The annual event happens this Saturday from 10:30 AM to 7 PM at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center located at 3601 S. WS Young Drive in Killeen.
The workshops include:
- “The art of storytelling” from Carl Kennedy - Who has been seen on Tyler Perry’s "The Have and Have Nots" "MacGyver" OWN's "Greenleaf" and more!
- “Writing a dynamic script for ages 12+” from Kerry Ann Zamora
- And a children’s acting class hosted by Kaylynn Wilkerson
Here’s my interview with the director of the event, Luvina Sabree.
Luvina is a fixture of the community who loves putting together these great events to celebrate and enhance Central Texas culture. She was excited about the films from around the world that be showcased at the festival. These are independent films from creators who have to get resourceful and creative in order to tell their stories.
Luvina says she has a passion for putting Killeen on the map and continuing to grow not only its culture and arts, but its economy as well with events like this.
The event is sponsored in part by the funds from the city of Killeen Texas municipal hotel occupancy tax revenues and other funding sources as stated in the contract.
