The Central Texas Airshow in Temple is two months away, but you don't have to wait that long to get up close and personal with some incredible vintage planes.

The Collings Foundation's Wings of Freedom Tour will land a B-17 Flying Fortress "Nine O Nine", a B-24 Liberator "Witchcraft" bomber, a B-25 Mitchell, and a P-51 Mustang "Toulouse Nuts" fighter at the Waco Regional Airport (7909 Karl May Dr) at 12:00 PM Monday, March 11, and the aircraft will remain on display until departing at Noon Wednesday, March 13.

This is a fantastic opportunity to see one of only nine B-17's in the United States still in operating condition. The B-24J Liberator is the only aircraft of its type in the world still flying, and the P-51 fighter won the Grand Champion Award for the efforts to restore it. The B-25's claim to fame is its use in the 1942 Doolittle Raid - the United State's first air operation to strike the Japanese Home Islands.

Adult tickets to explore the planes are $15. Children 12 and under can get in for $5, and there are group discounts for school groups. Reservations can be made at 800-568-8924.

If you want to fly in one of the aircraft, you can do that too! 30-minute rides aboard the B-17 or B-24 are $450 per person. B-25 flights are $400. You can even get flight training aboard the P-51! Stick time in that craft is $2,400 for half an hour and $3,400 for a full hour.

The Wings of Freedom Tour travels the nation as a flying tribute to the flight crews who flew them, the ground crews who maintained them, the workers who built them, the soldiers, sailors and airmen they helped protect, and the citizens and families that share the freedom that they helped preserve.
