KILLEEN, Texas (AP) — A Central Texas police officer wounded during a disturbance call that left another officer and the gunman dead has been released from a hospital.

Killeen police say Officer Juan Obregon Jr. was discharged Tuesday. Obregon will be off work for an extended amount of time during his recovery.

Police on the night of July 13 responded to 911 calls about a man with a weapon threatening people at a Killeen apartment complex pool. Investigators say Officer Robert Hornsby was fatally shot and Obregon was wounded during an exchange of gunfire with Dustin Cole.

Other officers returned fire and killed Cole, who was a Fort Hood soldier.
