Temple police say a former officer arrested in Williamson County late last week was no longer with the department when he was taken into custody.

In a news release issued Monday afternoon, Media Relations Specialist Cody Weems reported that former officer Jerrod McCoy resigned his position with the department on Tuesday, August 4. He had been with Temple PD since 2015.

Three days later on Friday, August 7, McCoy was arrested in Williamson County and charged with injury to a child. McCoy was released on August 7 on $30,000 bond.

"The criminal investigation was conducted by the Round Rock Police Department," Weems wrote. "The Temple Police Department was not involved in that investigation and does not have information to provide about the case."

Williamson County Jail records indicated the date of the alleged offense was June 28, 2020.

We have reached out to the Round Rock Police Department for further information and will update this post once that information is made available.
