Temple police are working to determine what caused the death of a man found in a home on North 2nd Street early Sunday morning.

According to TPD spokeswoman Shawana Neely, police were called to the CEFCO at 605 N. 3rd St. around 2:20 AM.

Upon arriving, they met a man who said he'd visited a friend's home in the 1300 block of N. 2nd St and found the friend dead on the floor, after which he'd gone to the CEFCO to dial 911.

Police visited the home and found an African-American man lying unresponsive on the floor. Detectives were called to the scene, and the man was pronounced dead. Justice of the Peace David Barfield ordered an autopsy.

The man's death remained under investigation Sunday afternoon. Neely said police will release more information as it becomes available. Investigators have given no indication that a crime was committed.
