Police in Temple are investigating a shooting that took place shortly after midnight Wednesday.

Dispatch received a report of multiple shots fired in the area of South 5th St. and Ave T. at 12:51 AM. According to a Temple PD press release, responding officers found "a large amount of blood" in the roadway of the 1900 block of South 5th.

As officers were investigating, a 17-year-old male arrived at the Baylor Scott & White emergency room in Temple with a gunshot wound to the leg. The victim is believed to have been driven to the ER in a private vehicle along with several witnesses.

Officers interviewed witnesses in both the ER and on 5th street. They reportedly received conflicting accounts of what happened.

Police have not released the name of the victim, nor have they mentioned a suspect.
