Rainfall totals for this week have reached more than double the average for July.

According to the National Weather Service, Killeen-Fort Hood Regional Airport recorded 5.62 inches of rainfall between Sunday and Wednesday. Average total rainfall in July is 2.45 inches.

Despite the rain, area lakes have seen little change. NWS meteorologist Joe Harris said dry soil absorbed most of the water before it could runoff into the lakes.

Levels at Belton and Stillhouse Hollow lakes rose about half a foot. Belton Lake is 7.9 feet below normal levels, and Stillhouse Hollow lake is 7.6 feet below. Even with the drought, the effect on recreational use of the lakes in minimal, according to the Brazos River Authority.
