A Texas woman has been charged with placing an ad on Craigslist offering her 3-year-old child for adoption.

The ad was spotted by Houston police shortly after it was posted by 29-year-old Stephanie Redus of Harris County on May 1. The woman’s email account and phone number were traced back to her after a grand jury subpoena was served to Craigslist.

The ad read:

Hi. I’m trying to adopt out my 3yr old son. I’m not in a good place in my life and don’t feel like I can care for him properly but I don’t know where to start. If you or know anyone who is interested in caring for him please let me know. I’m a single mom and can’t do this. Thanks, Desperate.

The 29-year-old mother replied to at least one respondent to the ad, asking for pictures of the new home her child would move into and asking if the person had any additional children.

She is now charged with advertising for placement of a child – a misdemeanor. The child is now in his father’s custody. Redus says she suffers from depression and anxiety and has been off her medication because she’s pregnant. She has been released on $1,000 bail.
