NEW YORK (AP) — G-I's will have to go off base to get their skin mags. Playboy and Penthouse are among nearly 50 titles getting the ax. The Army and Air Force Exchange Service says the issue isn't about sex but business. Other publications getting their military discharge include SpongeBob Comics, the New York Review of Books and the Saturday Evening Post. People, Men's Health and Cosmopolitan are the top-sellers and will remain along with hundreds of other publications. Exchange officials say about a third of the space being dedicated to magazines will now be used for other products. Newsstand sales have been hard hit by online alternatives.
