KWTX reported that a bat found in Waco on the outside wall of a building in downtown was found to be carrying more than your normal everyday bat.

Animal control officials in Waco reported that the bat captured downtown tested positive for rabies.

The bat was impounded by officials after it was found on Tuesday in the 600 block of Austin Avenue in Waco.

A city of Waco press release said, “As a precaution the bat was tested for rabies and tests came back positive for rabies.”

The city of Waco found no evidence that the bat had any contact with any animals or people in the nearby area.

The city of Waco said, “This appears to be an isolated case and citizens are reminded to be cautious to not come in contact with bats or other strange animals at any time."
