Body Found in Shallow Grave Identified as Missing Sul Ross Student Zuzu Verk
Any hopes that missing Sul Ross student Zuzu Verk might someday come home have been dashed, as a Dallas forensics team positively identified her body Monday.
A border agent found Verk's remains in a shallow grave in Alpine, Texas suburb Sunny Glen on the morning of Friday, February 3. The body was sent to the University of North Texas for identification. KOSA-TV reported Monday that a forensics team has confirmed the remains are those of Verk.
Verk's on-again, off-again boyfriend Robert Fabian was arrested Saturday and charged with fabricating physical evidence by concealing a corpse. Police say Verk went missing after meeting Fabian for a date on the night of October 11, 2016.
Fabian remained in police custody Tuesday. A judge set bail at $500,000, and Brewster County Sheriff Ronny Dodson told WFAA-TV that Fabian has been ordered to surrender his passport and report to Dodson's office every day before 5 PM if he posts bail and is released.
