Brave and Heroic Texas Girl Saves Grandmother From Fire After Being Attacked

A 10-year-old girl witnessed her Grandmother be attacked and set on fire, and without hesitation jumped into action to save her.

According to a report from KSAT, 10-year-old Naveah Gallegos saved her Grandmother's life after allegedly witnessing her Grandmother's ex-boyfriend pour gasoline on her and light her on fire.

Witnessing Tragedy

Naveah told investigators and reporters that she was insider her room when she began to hear her Grandmother Deborah Romo, 57, screaming. Neveah went into the living room to allegedly find her Grandmother's ex boyfriend, Roberto Cocolan, 43, pouring gasoline all over Romo. Police reports state that Cocolan then used a lighter to set Romo ablaze.

During the dispute, Neveah pushed and hit Cocolan attempting to get him to stop, but he continued. Neveah says that her Grandmother was trying to take her clothes off to save herself from the fire, but it was already too late.

Neveah Jumps Into Action

With the smoke quickly filling the house, Neveah ran to save her two-year-old sister from another room. Neveah covered the toddler's face to protect her from smoke inhalation and ran to a neighbor's home to get help.

A bucket of mop water was used to extinguish the flames from Romo's body. Romo's family believes that the attack was pre-meditated due to the fact that the water to the home was cut off.

The Abuse Isn't New

Romo is a certified nursing assistant at Christus Santa Rosa, and her family says she works 12-hour shifts, 7 days a week. The family says that they were aware that Cocolan had been abusive to Romo, but they never thought that something like this would happen.

Cocolan was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury and arson. His bond has been set at $500,000.

An Everlasting Love

Neveah told KSAT, "I want to tell her (Romo) I love her so much. Her family loves her, and her friends love her. We hope she can come home soon,” she said.
