This week, Facebook tributes have been flooding my timeline for Destiney Carey (Cannon), a young mother and entrepreneur whose life was cut short in Copperas Cove, Texas.

Carey was tragically killed on April 7th - the victim of a shooting. She was a local designer responsible for a number of beautiful clothing items worn by Killeen women and models. Police have released more information after arresting her boyfriend as the suspect in this senseless killing.

What Really Happened?

Captain Gabriel Cardona with the Copperas Cove Police Department issued a news release on April 7 in which he reported that officers had been dispatched to the 1000 block of Hobby Road shortly before 12:30 PM that day in reference to a 9-1-1 hang up call.

When officers arrived, they found 33-year-old Destiney Jassmund Carey and 37-year-old Kevin Frazier, who police say had both suffered gunshot wounds.

Carey was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Bill Price.

More Details On The Killing Of Destiney Carey

According to the arrest affidavit obtained by the Killeen Daily Herald, when officers arrived and attempted to make contact by knocking on the door, the officer heard a male voice telling him to wait.

The officer reportedly continued to knock and then proceeded to kick the door open when he heard screaming coming from inside the residence. The officer said they heard “several gunshots” coming from inside the home as they were making entry. The cop then observed Carey lying on the ground near the front door “not moving.”

The officer said they saw Frazier lying on the ground in the living room and placed him in handcuffs, then attempted lifesaving measures on Carey until paramedics arrived on the scene.

Paramedics were unable to revive Carey, who died on the scene from her injuries.

Frazier's Story To The Copperas Cove Police

Kevin Frazier was escorted out of the residence, and police noticed he also had gunshot wounds “to the torso area".

He was then transported to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood, where he was treated before being taken into custody.

Frazier was reportedly interviewed by the Copperas Cove Police a few times, and his description of events was labeled as “inconsistent.”

According to the Killeen Daily Herald, Frazier served from July 2004 and April 2016 and obtained the rank of staff sergeant, served on two deployments, and received numerous awards.

The only thing I keep saying when thinking about this case is, was it worth it?

This young lady is dead and Frazier will probably spend the rest of his life in jail. It's just sad all around.
