A 17-year-old Cameron student who stabbed another student with a pencil was arrested Monday evening, hours after fleeing town.

Jacob Ayers turned himself in to police without incident around 5:30 p.m. Ayers has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after stabbing another 17-year-old with a pencil at C.H. Yoe High School. He fled the scene in his car, and the school was on lockdown for around two hours until police determined that there was no longer a threat to other students.

The stabbing victim was taken to Scott & White Hospital in Temple for emergency surgery. Their injuries were non-life threatening, and they are expected to make a full recovery.
