CDC Warns of the Spread of the Powassan Virus

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued a warning about a new tick-driven virus.

KLTV reported that the CDC is warning everyone that this new illness is much more serious than Lyme disease, and that it may be emerging in the U.S.

The virus is called Powassan, or POW. From 2006 to 2015, ther were only about 75 cases of POW in the U.S.. Even though it remains far less common than Lyme, it's transmitted much quicker. You could get it within 15 minutes of a tick bite, while Lyme takes 36 to 48 hours.

POW attacks the nervous system and can also infect the brain. You can get either encephalitis or meningitis.

So, if you don't want to take the common sense advice and never leave your house, then you'll want to take steps to avoid the deer ticks.

Plus, if you don't want social services called, you might not want to ever do this horrific thing someone did to their own child.
